Volunteering Opportunities

AACT is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. We have identified a number of specific roles that we would like to fill as the charity grows, but also are looking for general volunteers to help on the Executive committee and at at events. If you are interested in finding out more, please feel free to speak to any of the existing Executive Committee or contact us at contact@aact.scot.

Expertise in finance, planning, social engagement or fundraising would be beneficial.

Details of the current Trustees are available here

Audit and Risk Committee Member

As part of our constitution we have an Audit and Risk Committee to oversee the activities of the charity. This is expected to meet two times a year. It’s main role is to

  • Review management accounts and bring any significant matters of performance to the attention of the Board of Trustees;

  • Review the risk assessment process to ensure effectiveness and consistency.

  • Ensure that AACT is compliant with all aspects of the law, relevant regulations

Communications Sub-committee Chair

Communicating to our Members, stakeholders and the wider community is a key role within the AACT. We are looking for a volunteer to lead the sub-committee.

Responsibilities include accountability to the Board of Trustees for communications, responsibility for our communications strategy, and coordination of our communications across press, email, and social media.

Working Groups

AACT has established four working groups to help take forward the priorities in the Local Place Plan and explore what a positive, practical future for Astley Ainslie could look like.

The four working groups are:

Community Ownership
Exploring options for community ownership, asset transfer, governance, funding and long-term stewardship.

Natural Environment
Focusing on trees, biodiversity, public access, paths, climate resilience and the protection of Astley Ainslie’s valued green space.

Community Hub
Developing ideas for a welcoming community space that could support local activity, wellbeing, creativity, learning and connection.

Housing
Considering how any future housing on the site could reflect community priorities, including affordability, sustainability, accessibility and sensitive design.

Each working group has a team leader in place. If you feel you have relevant skills, knowledge or expertise in any of these areas, we would be very pleased to hear from you. This could include professional experience, community knowledge, research expertise, lived experience or practical insight that could help shape the work.
